New Work
This new work represents a shift towards traditional object-based art and painting. One focus is on the quality of the mark; the job of the mark is to slowly establish the overall structure. With this method of mark-making, it’s simple to understand how a piece in this style of painting could rapidly devolve into abstraction. As the focus shifts to the marks, the imagery in some works distorts and vanishes, yet the work remains strong.

About this Piece
Though this piece is titled Stonington, CT this wall is more accurately located in Pawcatuck, CT. The New England countryside is littered with these stone barriers. This particular land is rich in glacier-era rocks. The majority of these walls are dry-stacked to display property lines. I find these walls to hold a telling history therefore as I painted these works, I wanted to convey the energetic magic that can be felt in the stone by using a dynamic variety of colors.
